What It Is & Characteristics

Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a bio-based material that is built by transforming carbon dioxide present in plants like corn and sugar cane into a polymer. While this polymer has its limitations both in supply and in physical properties, it can be a perfect fit in applications where high use temperature is not an issue.

Typical Uses

PLA is used for items such as gift cards, non-microwaveable take-out containers and stadium room temperature food containers (ex. nacho trays) and drinkware. If collected properly, PLA materials can be composted.
